Reading Body Language and Manipulating Kinesics
July 22, 2008 in How To Use iKinesics
Kinesics, or body language, refers to the subconscious gestures and body movements we make. They indicate what a person is feeling and thinking. Since these gestures are made subconsciously, it is difficult to fake your body language. However, it isn’t completely impossible to do so.
The practical application of kinesics can be separated in two categories:
- Interpretation of body language
- Manipulation of your own body language
Interpreting body language simply means reading a person’s gestures and ascertain what the gestures indicate. Has the person lied to you? Was he uncomfortable about what you were talking about.
While manipulating body language means to consciously alter your body language. What can you do to look more confident? What can you do to attract the opposite sex? To manipulate your body language, you will need to first know how to read body language. After all, how can you alter what you do not understand.
Your learning process of kinesics will be structured in this way for every subtopic:
- An entry will be written on a sub-topic of body language
- I will post resources related to that sub-topic to further your understanding
- A quiz will be put up to assess what you have learnt
Please note that while I’m no expert in body language, I’ve read into the subject and have tried to applied certain things in real life. And as I write blog entries on my insights and way of understanding, I hope it’d benefit you.
